The Story Behind Pine Ridge

Discover how mountain bike champion Sam Hill and the Signature Trails team helped shape Pine Ridge MTB Park, creating a new riding experience built around flow, progression and the landscape of Nannup.

With the opening of the 16.5-kilometre Pine Ridge MTB Park on 22 September 2026, Nannup reached a major milestone: the completion of its Trail Town program.

From green trails to black, first laps to flat out, Pine Ridge is a place where every rider can find their flow.

Designed and built by Sam Hill Signature Trails, the new trail network brings families, developing riders and experienced mountain bikers together in one forest, with trails designed to encourage riders to build confidence, progress their skills and keep coming back for another lap.

Building Pine Ridge

After years of planning, Pine Ridge took shape in just six months on the former Pine Ridge Golf Course fairways in State Forest, around five kilometres north of Nannup.

The landscape presented its own challenges, particularly the soil conditions, but also gave the team the opportunity to create something distinctive.

At the centre of the project was eight-time world champion Sam Hill, who brought more than two decades of elite international downhill and enduro racing experience to the design and construction of the park.

That rider-first perspective helped shape a network built around progression, flow and fun, with trails catering for a broad range of abilities. Pine Ridge also features an extended half-mile dual slalom trail, believed to be among the longest of its kind.

“Pine Ridge works with the natural terrain to offer progression, flow and fun for a broad range of riders,” Sam said. “We are proud to have partnered with the Shire to create a destination that will add to Nannup's growing reputation in the mountain biking community.”

More Than Building Trails

Building Pine Ridge wasn’t only about creating somewhere new to ride.

As work progressed, crews also cleaned up the former site, removing large amounts of rubbish and helping restore the area so it could once again become a place for the community and visitors to enjoy.

The result is a mountain bike park that invites locals and visitors to get outdoors, connect with nature and experience another side of Nannup.

The Final Piece of Nannup Trail Town

Pine Ridge is the final major project delivered through the Nannup Trail Town program, completing a network that now gives riders a diverse range of mountain biking experiences across the destination.

The wider program has delivered Tank 7 MTB Park, Ngoolark Jump Park, town-to-trail connections, upgraded trailheads, improved wayfinding, destination branding and digital visitor tools.

Together, these projects have created a more connected mountain biking destination, with different places to ride, different ways to explore and opportunities for riders of varying ages and abilities.

The Trail Town program was jointly funded by the Australian Government, Western Australian Government, the Shire of Nannup and the local community. It has been shaped by years of work from community members, volunteers, businesses, government partners, contractors and Shire staff.

With Pine Ridge now open, the vision comes together: a trail town built not around one park or one type of rider, but around an entire community of trails.

Four parks. Kilometres of trails. And plenty more Nannup to discover.

Your trail awaits.
